Privacy Policy

Effective Date: December 1, 2024

At Da Buoys ("we", "our", "us"), we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS application.

Information We Don't Collect

We want to be crystal clear: Da Buoys does not collect, store, or share any personal data or usage information from our app.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Names or contact information
  • Location data (beyond what you explicitly select for buoy locations)
  • Device identifiers
  • Usage analytics or behavior tracking
  • Photos or media from your device
  • Personal preferences beyond app settings stored locally on your device

Data That Stays On Your Device

All your app preferences and favorites are stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account (if you have iCloud sync enabled). This data never touches our servers because we don't have any servers collecting user data.

Third-Party Data Sources

Da Buoys displays real-time ocean data from:

  • NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) buoys
  • PacIOOS (Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System)

When you use Da Buoys, your device connects directly to these services to fetch the latest buoy data. We recommend reviewing their respective privacy policies if you have concerns about how they handle requests.

Crash Reports

If the app crashes, iOS may generate a crash report. These reports are handled entirely by Apple and only shared with us if you explicitly choose to share crash data with app developers in your iOS settings. These reports contain no personal information, only technical details about what went wrong.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, we'll update the "Effective Date" at the top. But honestly, since we don't collect any data, we don't expect this to change much.

The Bottom Line

We built Da Buoys because we wanted a simple, fast way to check real buoy data. Not to harvest your data. Your information stays on your device, where it belongs. Now get out there and catch some waves! 🤙
